Nursery
The freedom to decide how to learn and how to play.
At Oriel Academy West London’s Nursery, your child will be encouraged to start their educational journey in a way that best suits them and have fun doing so.
By focusing on learning through play, our Nursery children are encouraged to learn independently and be driven by their own curiosities and creativity.
Our Nursery also boasts a designated educational garden area that children use every day.
At the end of their Nursery journey at Oriel, children are curious, creative, courageous, and ready for the next part of their Early Years education.
Nursery places are available for September 2024-25. Find out more about what we offer here and to apply, please email: office@oriel-aspirations.org.
To emphasise our learning through play philosophy, our Nursery space has been built in a way that provides ample opportunities for children to explore, investigate and discover.
Our Nursery children follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum combined with the Government’s Development Matters curriculum.
We also complete phases 1 and 2 of phonics in Nursery to give our children a head-start on their learning before Reception.
Nursery learning is supported by our fully-equipped outdoor space. Designed to develop both fine and gross motor skills, children spend time outdoors every day playing and learning.
Whether it be riding bikes, planting in the herb garden or investigating the way water flows, learning continues outside of the classroom and children enjoy exploring independently but are always supervised.
“Not everyone likes to learn in the classroom so it’s important to get the children outdoors. We’re lucky here at Oriel to have a purpose-built garden area that is perfect for developing both fine and gross motor skills. Children can bring their writing outside, practice their numbers by counting the insects they find, or use the mud kitchen to have some fun. They have the freedom to decide how they learn.”
Charley Doyle, Nursery Manager
Our indoor Nursery space has different areas set-up to encourage the development of fine motor skills while still giving children a choice of how they learn. The different areas include writing, numbers, art and construction.
Our static role-play area changes termly to reflect a real-life setting that children can experience. Children love dressing up and using the real props to play! Recently, children have been hairdressers and used hair dryers and brushes to get into character. Children have also played the role of doctors and used stethoscopes to examine each other.
“We encourage children to explore different ways of learning. This gives them the best possible start to their learning journey as they can learn in a way that best suits them, preparing them for the next part of their education.”
